SCHMOUTZ
About This Spot
Stepping into SCHMOUTZ on Rue Saint-Maur feels like slipping into a cherished neighborhood spot where warmth and a subtle hum of convivial energy wrap around you. The space pulses softly with the lively chatter of locals and the unexpected soundtrack of rap beats, setting an upbeat yet unpretentious tone. It’s the kind of place where time slows just enough to savor the comfort of good company and thoughtfully prepared flavors without feeling overly formal.
This restaurant and wine bar embodies an inviting, bustling atmosphere that’s unmistakably Parisian yet rooted in Alsatian charm. The steady rhythm of quick, attentive service matches the steady flow of plates sharing regional treasures—thin, crispy tarte flambée layered with melting Munster cheese, the rustic pull of warm bretzels paired with a cold bière blonde, or the gentle fizz of an artisanal lemonade balancing the richness of the evening’s fare. There’s a tangible sense of tradition here, made fresh by a family’s personal touch and the unmistakable pulse of the neighborhood’s evening rituals.
Conversations inevitably rise as tables fill, especially come weekend evenings when the crowd gathers in a friendly, spirited crush. It might be a little noisy, yes, but that background buzz only deepens the feeling of belonging, as if you’ve stumbled upon a shared secret corner where regional Alsace meets Parisian flair. The space invites you to linger, to explore familiar and new tastes side by side, and to be part of a quietly joyful local moment.

Nice little place. Only got one beer but the music was good (if you like rap) and the draft was just what I needed.

Great, family-owned and operated restaurant with fantastic food! Try the Ail Ciboulette tarte, a pint with Amer and the spéculos tarte for dessert! I have been many times and it’s consistently delicious. They don’t take reservations, so if you want to make sure you have a table, arrive at 7 (especially on Fridays and Saturdays).

We arrived when it opened. We couldn't find a way to reserve. So we found a table quickly since they had just opened. We took the traditionelle and the tomme. Very tasty food. Fast and good service. We also tried the artisinale limonade. Everything was great. Would recommend and would go again. (Edit)

The Tarte Flambe is just as good as the ones in Alsace. Excelent and very cheap, at 9€ for the traditional one.

They serve traditional tart flambee here and other specialities from the region of Alsace Very quick service but keep in mind that it is quite noisy and packed with people in the evening

Cosy. Tasty. Good price. Delicious white wine! ;) and one of the best services you can find so far.

The food was good, but the waiting system needs improvement.

Not a typical review, but my partner and I were travelling through France and planned a dinner at home in our AirBnB, which of course involved a bottle of wine! To our surprise, the AirBnB didn't have a cork-screw After a nervous ask, the gentleman who works at the restaurant offered to open it for me! A simple but meaningful gesture that made our day, thank you very much
